According to The Globe and Mail’s article on Thursday, October 29, the Government of Ontario is forcing the Niagara Parks commission to accept bids from companies that want to run boat tours at Niagara Falls. When the Maid of the Mist Steamboat Company’s 25 year contract is up, companies will have a chance to bid for permission to run boat tours at Niagara Falls. The Maid of the Mist is accused of having a monopoly on boat tours at Niagara Falls.

On one hand, I think that having another company come in and o the boat ride will be bad because of brand recognition. Many people want to ride “The Maid of the Mist”, not just a boat ride.

On the other hand, it is unfair for other businesses to not be able to get a “Piece of the tourism Action”.

Back to the first hand; if another company gets the contract, will the quality and/or the price be comparable? Another words, will it really be the same tour?

I know that this blog will not change any decisions by the Niagara Parks Commission, or the Government of Ontario, but I am interested what other people think. Please click on the heading for this post to leave a comment.

P.S. As far as I know, the Maid of the Mist will still be running the boat ride on the American side.
