I'm often asked, "What's a floral clock?"
The answer is simple: a clock made out of flowers. The Floral Clock was built in 1950, by Ontario Hydro. The Floral Clock was built right across the street from the Sir Adam Beck Power stations, down river from Niagara Falls. The clock is 40 foot in diameter. The face of the clock is made of over 15,000 plants, and is changed twice a year, by the students at the Niagara Horticultural School. They never repeat a design. Since Sir Adam Beck was the head of Ontario Hydro when it was built, he had the clock hands shaped as crutches, to honor his daughter, who was battling tuberculosis. The clock also has Westminster chimes, that sound every 15 minutes. You can go around the back the clock to view the mechanism. In the back of the clock, are also pictures of every face that the clock has had since 1950.
You can view the Floral Clock on our Toronto to Niagara Falls bus tours, and our Niagara Tours that start in Niagara Falls.
